Ashgrove Hill
The bureau's home station on the old ridge pasture above Ashgrove. Records temperature, wind and rainfall every hour by hand and by machine. The visitor window is Thursday to Sunday, 10:00 to 16:00, and the logbook is on the desk for anyone who signs the visitors' page.

The instruments
The Stevenson screen sits on the south fence, painted the regulation white and repainted every spring. The rain gauge is the brass one from 1934, still the reference.
Automatic sensors log every minute; the observer's hand entries settle any argument between them. On windy days the anemometer talks more than the observers do.
