Co-op programme

Sixty-one readers.
Room for one more.

Co-op observers read a rain gauge and a max-min thermometer once a day, at an hour they choose, and post the card monthly. The ledger is 92 years deep because of them.

The deal

What you get, what you give

The bureau lends you the gauge and the thermometer, calibrates them every spring, and replaces anything that fails. You keep the instruments at your place, read them at the same hour each day, and write the two numbers on a card.

That is the whole job. Four minutes on a good day. The only rule is the hour: the same one every time, because a 92-year series forgives everything except a moving target.

The observer's oath

"Same hour, every day, even the boring ones." Framed in the HQ stairwell since 1964.
