The almanac
The 2027 Fairweather Almanac.
Printed every October, sold at the visitor desks and two shops in the vale, and funded entirely by the proceeds it makes. Next year's cover is a pencil and a frost.
Inside
What's in the 2027 edition
The valley's 2027 datebook: fishing and planting folklore, the frost tables rewritten by the Vale Observatory, the fog statistics from Point Brace, and the full year of dam gaugings.
The centrefold this year is the synoptic chart of the Great Hail of 1971, drawn from the original hand-plotted isobars and reproduced at ledger scale.
96 pages, sewn binding, printed locally. 8 in the shops, 12 by post.
Folklore
Sayings the almanac collects
From the dam keepers
"When the mist walks uphill, the water is warm; when it walks down, go get your coat."
From the vale
"A red evening over Brace means wind in the braces by noon."
From Ashgrove Hill
"The first frost never comes the day you finally cover the beans."
